How this is worked out
Average headcount is the start and end of the period averaged, which is the ordinary convention and the one most benchmarks use. Rate is leavers over that average.
The annualised figure scales a shorter period up to twelve months. It is useful for spotting a trend early and misleading if your leavers cluster — three departures in a quarter does not reliably mean twelve in a year.
